REI partners with the Djiboutian government to promote and increase English language programs. REI staff have been involved in Djibouti for the last ten years. They have been part of opening a new English program at the Institute for Diplomatic Studies and helping draft the 12th grade English curriculum for the entire country.
REI resident team-members both lead and teach at the International School of Djibouti. Established in 2016, this REI-inspired school provides English-based K-12 education that focuses on discovery, creativity, and problem-solving in order to develop noble-hearted, global citizens.
The end of the school year is a time for celebration, replete with events that honor the learning, growth, and sacrifice that has taken place during the academic year. Educators reflect on the year, noting the growth we have witnessed and our hopes and dreams for the following year. Students breathe a sigh of relief, ready for the rest that summer brings, while trying to ignore that twinge of concern over missing their friends – and even their teachers. The end of the year also brings ceremony, and perhaps there is no greater distinction than successfully reaching the culmination of years of hard work: high school graduation.
The 2023-2024 school year has certainly been a time of celebration at the International School of Djibouti, where the school recently honored its first high school graduate, Sagal Said Harbi.
To address the educational need for English in Djibouti, the International School of Djibouti (ISD) was opened in September 2016. The mission of ISD is to provide students in Djibouti a world-class education in English focused on discovery, creativity, and problem-solving to develop noble-hearted, global citizens.
